Repsol hit with lawsuit over Hecate Energy deal in US - report
Sep 17, 2024 15:29 CESTDanish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today it has secured its first US offshore order with a deal with Equinor ASA (OSE:EQNR) to supply the turbines for the 810-MW Empire Wind 1 project.
The contract covers supply, delivery and commissioning of 54 V236-15.0 MW turbines, as well as a five-year comprehensive service agreement. Delivery is expected to start in 2026 and completion is planned for 2027.
In 2021, Vestas was selected as the preferred turbine supplier for the Empire Wind projects in New York. Norway’s Equinor subsequently successfully rebid Empire Wind 1 in New York’s fourth offshore wind solicitation and in June 2024, it finalised the offtake agreement for the project with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The Empire Wind 1 project includes the transformation of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) in Sunset Park, New York into an offshore wind hub, which will provide the infrastructure for the staging and pre-assembly activities for the V236-15.0 MW turbines, and transportation of wind turbine components, tools and containers towards offshore installation.
Vestas said that since the launch of its V236-15.0 MW flagship offshore wind turbine, it has secured more than 13 GW of firm orders and preferred supplier agreements globally. The turbine received its type certification last year.
“Delivering our commercially ready V236-15.0 MW for our first US offshore project is a moment of huge pride for Vestas North America, and we’re poised to continue leading the build-out of US offshore wind with our industry-leading technology at the forefront of it,” said John Eggers, chief technology officer, Vestas North America.
