Wind turbine installation has started at the 50-MW Tsetsji wind farm in southern Mongolia, Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said yesterday.

Under an order announced in September last year, the project, located in the Gobi desert, will use 25 units of Vestas' V110-2.0 MW wind turbines. The Danish company said that with the weather warming up, installation of the turbines has begun and the first tower section has been put in place. It added that the project is progressing ahead of schedule.

The wind farm, developed by a joint venture between Newcom LLC of Mongolia and SB Energy Corp of Japan, is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
