Vestas to build 159-MW wind park in Senegal

Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) will be building Senegal’s first large utility-scale wind farm, namely the 159-MW Parc Eolien Taiba N’Diaye.

Vestas announced today that it has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with the project company, which is owned by Africa-focused renewable power producer Lekela, a 60/40 joint venture between Actis and a consortium led by Mainstream Renewable Power. Lekela achieved financial close for the project in July.

The Danish company said it is providing a customised solution for this scheme, including the supply, transport, installation and commissioning of 46 units of its V126-3.45 MW turbines. The contract also includes an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement with a term of 20 years.

Vestas’ long-time financing partner EKF Denmark’s Export Credit has provided a EUR-140-million (USD 163m) export loan for this wind park. The project is ready to enter the construction phase and will be expecting turbine deliveries between the second and the third quarters of 2019. Commissioning is scheduled for the period between the third quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020.
