Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTDanish company Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has joined hands with Burmese power firm Zeya & Associates to develop wind projects in Myanmar, Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday.
The companies inked an agreement on June 11 in Yangon city. The initial focus of their cooperation will be constructing wind parks in the southeastern region of Mon state, according to the statement.
“The country is facing the challenge of a rapidly increasing power demand and wind energy can provide a sustainable solution to energy security and at the same time a sound business case for investors,” the head of marketing for Vestas Asia-Pacific & China noted. Specific details around the Danish wind turbine maker’s projects in Myanmar have not been disclosed at this point.
The move marks Vestas’ debut on the Burmese wind power market. To date, the company has roughly 68 GW of cumulative installed capacity across 73 countries globally, it says on its website.
