El Salvador’s state ports authority Comision Ejecutiva Portuaria Autonoma (CEPA) announced on its social media channels last week that turbine components for the country’s first wind project had arrived at the port of Acajutla.

Images show the unloading of the Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) blades, which will make its way to the construction site of the 54-MW Ventus wind farm in El Salvador’s municipality of Metapan, the department of Santa Ana.

CEPA said that each turbine piece had been sprayed with disinfectant before leaving the port area as part of the COVID-19 preventive measures.

The Ventus wind project is promoted by Ventus SA de CV, a unit of Guatemalan power plants operator Tracia Network Corporation. Tracia Network secured the project in El Salvador’s renewable energy auction in 2017.

The wind farm will be composed of 15 units of Vestas V136-3.45 MW turbines. Turbine delivery follows the schedule which Vestas timed for the second quarter of 2020. Commissioning of the wind farm was in the plans for this year’s third quarter, the Danish turbine maker said last summer upon finalising the order.
