Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has been contracted to supply turbines for 815 MW of wind projects in Australia, South Korea and South Africa, according to a series of end-quarter announcements.

The Danish manufacturer has received an order to equip a 254-MW wind park in Australia with 41 units of its V162-6.2 MW EnVentus platform machines. The deal covers the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the turbines and a 30-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. Project details and the name of the customer were not disclosed.

Vestas expects to start delivering the hardware in the fourth quarter of 2024 and bring the turbines online in the closing quarter of 2025.

Moving east, Vestas has received an order from independent power producer Red Rocket to supply turbines for its 108-MW Witberg project in South Africa’s Western Cape province. The scope of the deal calls for the Danish firm to supply and install 24 units of its V136-4.5 MW turbines and oversee their operation under a 15-year AOM 5000 agreement. Turbine delivery is expected to take place by the second half of 2024, with commissioning planned for the first quarter of 2025.

A second order in South Africa will see Vestas deliver 14 V150-4.5 MW machines for a 63-MW wind park and service them under a 20-year AOM 4000 contract. Shipments of the hardware are due to be made by the first half of this year. The wind park is slated to begin operations in the closing trimester of 2024.

In South Korea, Vestas has secured the preferred supplier status for the 390-MW Shinan Ui offshore wind project that was developed by a unit of South Korea’s Hanwha Corporation and real estate group SK D&D Ltd and Korea South-East Power Co Ltd (KOEN). The preferred supplier agreement was awarded by Hanwha Corporation.

Provided that the project materialises, Vestas will supply 26 pieces of the V236-15.0 MW turbines and will also operate and maintain them for 20 years. The machines are planned to be installed on fixed foundations in the southeastern waters of Ui Island.

The V236-15.0 MW turbine, for which Vestas secured type certificate in November 2023, is ready for serial production in 2024. The Danish turbine maker noted it has already bagged more than 2.8 GW of firm orders for those machines.
