Viaspace unveils EPC deal for 12-MW biomass project in Nicaragua

Energia Reino Verde, the developer of a 12-MW biomass power plant in Nicaragua, has picked the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the particular project.

The EPC supervision deal was announced on Tuesday by California-based Viaspace Inc (OTCBB:VSPC), which shares the ownership of the project company with investors and executives of Nicaragua-based Agricorp. Viaspace, however, did not disclose the name of the company that will provide the required equipment and offer engineering services.

"We have held meetings with several reputable, international financing entities who have expressed a strong interest in financing this project,” commented Kevin Schewe, chairman of Viaspace.

The 12-MW biomass facility will be co-located with Viaspace’s local Giant King Grass plantation. Once operational, the plant will be able to produce 84 million kWh of electricity annually for 25 years. Apart from the Giant King Grass energy crop, the station will be fuelled by rice husk as a secondary fuel and rice straw as a backup fuel.
