World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTBritish telecoms giant Vodafone Group Plc (LON:VOD) announced on Friday its commitment to source from renewables 100% of the electricity for its global operations by 2025.
Vodafone presently supplies 13% of its demand from renewables and will seek to sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) to buy clean power and cover its overall consumption. The plan also envisages the construction of on-site renewable energy installations across the company’s technology centres and base station sites, and the purchase of renewable energy certificates.
The telecoms group intends to cut greenhouse gas emissions from its network business by 40% by 2025 by focusing on energy efficiency solutions.
As part of the decision to go green, Vodafone has also joined the Climate Group’s RE100 initiative, which unites companies from various sectors that aim to power 100% of their operations from renewable sources.
