French renewable power plants operator Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has sealed cooperation agreements with authorities in Uzbekistan regarding the further development of two of its projects in the Asian country.

The pacts were sealed last week during the visit of French president Emmanuel Macron in Uzbekistan, Voltalia said on Friday.

Specifically, the Paris-based company has agreed the next steps required for its up to 500-MW Shurkul hybrid project, which it is developing in the Navoi region of southwestern Uzbekistan. The scheme envisages the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind and energy storage capacity of between 400 MW and 500 MW in total. An initial agreement for the project was signed in November 2021.

The second arrangement concerns the addition of 100 MW of wind and battery energy storage capacity to the 123-MW Sarimay solar project. Voltalia secured the right to develop the scheme in Uzbekistan’s Khorezm region last December in a tender coordinated by the International Finance Corporation.

"These two bilateral agreements strengthen our presence in Uzbekistan," said Sebastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
