Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFrench renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) said on Thursday that the entire output of its Kourou biomass plant in Guyana has been qualified under a programme for the enforcement of forest certification (PEFC).
Non-profit organisation PEFC is the largest forest certifier globally. Forests in its lists are certified according to the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable forest management.
The Kourou power plant is using as feedstock waste wood from local sawmills and urban and industrial land clearing activities. After 94.4% of the biomass facility’s production received PEFC certification in 2020, the same standard now applies to 100% of the generation.
Voltalia noted that Kuorou is the first French overseas biomass power plant that is 100% PEFC certified. The facility has been operational since 2019.
