French renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has won a 5-MW solar project in a tender for photovoltaic (PV) capacity in non-interconnected zones (ZNIs), with storage.

Voltalia has secured the Parc Sable Blanc scheme, which calls for the construction of a 5-MW solar plant with an integrated lithium-ion battery facility of 5 MW/9.3 MWh. The capacity will be installed in the commune of Mana, French Guiana, within the Toco energy storage complex.

Once Parc Sable Blanc goes online in 2023, the storage complex will be enlarged to 19.3 MW/25.6 MWh. Last November, Voltalia powered up 10-MW/13.6-MWh and then said the system had 12.6 MW/16.5 MWh in operation.

Voltalia noted it is the sole winner in the fifth round of the CRE 4 tender for ground-based solar projects in French Guiana. Its project will receive a guaranteed selling tariff for 20 years.
