Renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has been awarded the construction of a 4.2-MW solar farm in French Guiana by France's space agency CNES.

CNES will fund the construction works for the EUR-5-million (USD 5.6m) project, which will benefit from the French Recovery Plan, Voltalia announced on Wednesday.

The 5-hectare (12.3 acres) photovoltaic (PV) plant, secured through a tender held by CNES, will be built at the Kourou space base, owned by the Guiana Space Centre (CSG).

Voltalia expects the PV park to go online by June 2023.

This solar plant is part of a larger green project at the Kourou's space base. In all, the scheme includes two PV farms and two biomass energy plants, which will provide clean electricity and cooling for the CSG.
