Voltalia to co-develop up to 500 MW of renewable projects in Uzbekistan

French renewable power plants operator Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has signed an agreement with the Uzbek government to co-develop between 400 MW and 500 MW of renewable energy projects in the Central Asian country.

The partnership includes the development of 200 MW of solar, 200 MW of wind and 60 MW/240 MWh of battery storage power, Voltalia said on Tuesday.

The renewables cluster, the first of its kind in Central Asia, is a tripartite agreement between Votalia, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade (MIFT).

Voltalia and the Uzbek Ministry of Energy will select the location for the cluster later while the commissioning of the plants is already planned to start from 2026 onwards.

Once up and running, the energy cluster should be capable of generating more than 1 TWh of clean electricity per year, enough to meet the demand of over 800,000 inhabitants.

Currently, the Central Asian country plans to have 8 GW of renewable capacity by 2026 and 12 GW by 2030.
