French renewables company Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) announced on Monday that it has been awarded a contract by Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) to build a 128-MW solar farm in County Carlow, Ireland.

Voltalia will handle the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the project, marking its first collaboration with Ørsted. The project also represents the Danish energy group’s first investment in solar power in Ireland.

“With this new service contract, Voltalia illustrates its competitiveness as a builder of solar power plants”, commented Sebastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.

The award by Ørsted has raised Voltalia’s portfolio in Ireland to just over 540 MW of projects built and under construction. More recently, the French renewable power producer and services provider was hired by Irish state-owned energy company ESB to serve as the EPC contractor for a 57-MW solar farm project in County Longford.
