All funds in place for 1.5-GW Al Ajban solar project in Abu Dhabi
Sep 18, 2024 8:34 CESTWarner Bros World Abu Dhabi has become the Gulf region’s largest solar-powered theme park now that a 7-MWp rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system has been inaugurated at the site on Yas Island.
Emerge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Masdar and French energy group EDF (EPA:EDF), executed the project for asset manager Miral, on behalf of which it is also installing a rooftop solar array at the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi theme park. This second project, also located on Yas Island, should be completed later this year.
The installation at Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi is expected to provide nearly 40% of the theme park’s annual energy needs. It consists of around 16,000 solar modules.
"We launched the Emerge joint venture with our partner EDF to help private-sector organizations access renewable energy solutions more effectively and to make their operations more sustainable. As we prepare for COP28 in the UAE, we look forward to working with more companies here and in the wider region on deploying clean energy solutions," stated Khaled Ballaith, chairman of Emerge.
