Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFinnish technology group Wartsila Corp (HEL:WRT1V) has won a contract to build a 6-MW energy storage facility on the Caribbean island of Bonaire for a unit of ContourGlobal Plc (LON:GLO).
Under the terms of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal, Wartsila will also provide batteries and inverters, as well as the GEMS energy management software developed by its Greensmith Energy subsidiary. The Finnish company said that it has already started work on the project and expects to complete it in April 2019.
Wartsila noted that the energy storage system will allow Bonaire to raise its use of renewable energy, providing grid stability and reliability for the island. The facility will integrate all of the island’s existing power generation assets with energy storage, wind and solar power.
The GEMS software, in turn, will control the grid on the island, which has roughly 19,000 inhabitants.
