Finnish technology group Wartsila Corp (HEL:WRT1V) said on Monday that it has booked an order to supply a 25-MW/27-MWh energy storage system to the Bahamas.

The contract was awarded by Bahamas Power and Light Company (BPL), the electric utility of the archipelago nation.

Set to work under a full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), Wartsila will supply and install 27 units of its Wartsila GridSolv Quantum modular energy storage system.

Storage will work in combination with a 132-MW engine power plant, which Wartsila delivered to BPL in 2019. The integrated solution will support the Government of the Bahamas’ plans to increase the share of renewable sources, notably solar, by 30% by 2030, the Finnish group said.

The energy system will expected to be fully up and running by mid-2022.
