Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFinnish technology group Wartsila Corp (HEL:WRT1V) said Monday it would provide a 17-MW/15-MWh energy storage system for a gold mine in Mali.
The energy storage system, based on Wartsila's GEMS energy management solution, is for the Fekola Mine in southwest Mali, owned by Canadian gold-mining company B2Gold Corp (TSE:BTO). This is the first hybrid project between the two companies.
The GEMS technology will also control a new 30-MW solar system currently being built on site. The energy storage and hybrid energy system will help cut costs and improve power reliability at the mine. Overall, they will improve the mine's operations, lower fuel consumption and save carbon dioxide emissions.
The latest contract brings Wartsila's installed base in Africa to over 7.4 GW.
