Wavepiston, a Danish start-up developing wave energy technology, is partnering with green energy major Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) to explore the potential for co-locating offshore wind and wave energy in the companies’ home market.

The collaboration, announced by Wavepiston on Thursday, will look into the benefits of pairing the two technologies, which include achieving higher overall energy output from the same area, providing more stable electricity supply, cost efficiencies from shared infrastructure, as well as minimising the environmental footprint.

“We are excited about the opportunities this collaboration presents and the positive impact it can have on the environment and energy market of the future,” stated Wavepiston CCO Emiel Schut.

Wavepiston announced the installation of its first full-scale energy collector at PLOCAN, Gran Canaria in February.
