The government of Laos and two investment firms will pour some USD 2.15 billion (EUR 2.16bn) into the construction of a 1.2-GW wind farm in the Southeast Asian country, the Laotian Times reports.

The project is planned to be realised by local firm Savan Vayu Renewable Company and LTM Lao Company, which last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government. While it confirmed signing the pact to explore the feasibility of developing wind projects in the region, the government did not provide details about the scale of the proposal.

The huge project is planned to be located in the Lako area of Sepon District, Savannakhet Province. According to the report, it is expected to be completed at the end of 2025. Unnamed sources have told the newspaper that the wind farm’s future output will be supplied to the domestic market, while a portion of it will be exported, mainly to Vietnam.
