Wind farms in Brazil's Northeast region reached a new regional generation record on July 27, hitting 19,028 MW, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has announced.

According to data from the National Electric System Operator (ONS), the record corresponds to 152.8% of the region's energy demand at that time. The previous record high was 18,725 MW, registered on August 14, 2023.

In Brazil, the period between July and September is known as the windy season, meaning there is a higher probability of new generation records in the coming weeks.

During the first half of the year, Brazil's electricity system grew by 5.7 GW of new capacity across different technologies. The goal is to close the year with 10.1 GW, MME noted.
