WindEurope to help Azerbaijan advance wind build-out

WindEurope to help Azerbaijan advance wind build-out View of Baku and the Caspian Sea by amanderson2.

The Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency will tap into industry group WindEurope’s expertise to advance the realisation of on- and -offshore wind projects at home and in the Caspian region as the country seeks to achieve a 30% renewable power share by 2030 and become a major power exporter to Europe.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the two pledge to partner in various areas, such as establishing competition criteria, outlining best practices and knowledge, simplifying permitting, sourcing components, facilitating offtake, and developing the Caspian-EU Green Energy Corridor.

Azerbaijan wishes to export much of its wind energy to Europe via said corridor. The country already has a MoU in place with Georgia, Romania, and Hungary for a subsea cable under the Black Sea which was signed in December 2022.

"It’s great they want to build so much, and that they want to export the energy to Europe through the planned Black Sea cable. It’s win-win collaboration," WindEurope's CEO Giles Dickson said in the statement released today.
