Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTJun 26, 2014 - Canadian firm Windiga Energy said yesterday it had signed a contract with the government of Burkina Faso to construct a 20-MW solar park.
The company noted it will become the first independent solar power producer in the African country.
Windiga Energy has hired Siemens Energy Smart Generation Solutions to build and operate the photovoltaic (PV) plant, which will require an investment of USD 50 million (EUR 36.7m). The project will be financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Frontier Markets Fund Managers and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund.
The 20-MW facility will be located in Mouhoun province and is expected to be up and ready to run at the end of 2015. Its output will be sold to National Electricity Company of Burkina (SONABEL) under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), which has not been finalised yet. Once operational, the solar farm will be the biggest of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, Windiga Energy said.
