January 17 (Renewables Now) – French renewable power plants operator Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) announced on Thursday that its 3.8-MW Savane des Peres solar project in French Guiana was now in the construction phase.

In addition to the power plant, the Savane des Peres project also includes installing a 2.6-MW/2.9-MWh energy storage system using lithium-ion batteries, which will stabilise the solar production for local households.

The project comes with a 25-year contract with a secured tariff starting from the commissioning of the plant, due in the second half of 2019.

Voltalia won the job in a 2016 tender held by France’s Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy with the aim of boosting solar energy initiatives in French overseas departments.
