Woodland Biofuels to pour USD 1.35bn into Louisiana port biofuel hub
Sep 18, 2024 8:54 CESTTechnology giant Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) is advancing its push to decarbonise its corporate air travel and supply chain cargo by signing a sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc) agreement with US fuel producer World Energy.
The ten-year contract will see 43.7 million gallons (165 million l) of fossil jet fuel displaced with sustainable, low-carbon aviation fuel supplied by World Energy, according to a statement released today.
The scope of the deal equates to the full decarbonisation of more than 824,000 passengers flying round trip between Microsoft’s home base in Seattle and New York City, or of the transportation of over 54,000 metric tonnes of cargo between Asia and North America.
“Not only will it help to reduce our business travel and supply chain logistics emissions, but we hope this agreement will inspire others to take action and support the transition to alternative fuels that will enable a decarbonised aviation industry,” said Katie Ross, director of carbon reduction strategy and market development at Microsoft.
The contracted supply will be produced at World Energy's facility in Paramount, California, which is currently being expanded through a multi-billion dollar investment.
