US fuel producer World Energy has signed a deal to supply about 668 million littres (176 million gallons) of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to German express mail and delivery service DHL Express via sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc).

The seven-year contract, which will run through 2030, concerns an amount equivalent to handling the about 77,000 annual aircraft movements of DHL Express in the Americas carbon neutrally for a full year, a statement said today.

The SAF deal supports DHL Express’ push to cut its annual greenhouse gas emissions to below 29 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2030.

Earlier this year, German logistics company Deutsche Post AG (ETR:DHL), trading as DHL Group, along with South African chemicals and energy company Sasol Ltd (JSE:SOL), teamed up with green energy firm HH2E AG for the production of SAF based on green hydrogen (eSAF) in Germany.
