Australia-based energy services provider Worley Ltd (ASX:WOR) has been awarded service contracts by Shell plc (LON:SHELL) to support the British oil major in executing its 200-MW renewable hydrogen project in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Shell’s Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1) project is expected to become Europe’s largest commercial green hydrogen production facility. It will feature a 200-MW electrolyser powered by offshore wind and capable of producing around 60,000 kg of hydrogen per day. The green hydrogen will help decarbonise fossil fuel production at Shell’s Energy and Chemicals Park in Rotterdam and will also supply the heavy transportation industry.

Worley said on Monday it has been contracted to provide detailed design and procurement, and construction management support services including the integration required key vendors and other assets like offshore wind, pipelines, power grids and the refinery. The new contracts build on a partnership between Shell and Worley since late 2020 for the provision of early engineering services for the project.

Shell took the final investment decision to build HH1 in 2022. The project will receive electricity from the 759-MW Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm, developed by Shell and Eneco.
