German renewables developer Wpd on Tuesday said it has closed financing for its Hsinyuan wind farm in Taiwan with Taiwanese bank Bank SinoPac.

Located in Yunlin County in Lunbei District, the wind farm consists of six Vestas V136 turbines of 4.2 MW each. It has already been constructed and commissioned and is expected to officially begin commercial operation in the second quarter of 2024. Financial close was achieved on March 18, the developer said.

"Our Hsinyuan project takes advantage of the excellent conditions for wind energy on the west coast of Taiwan," remarked Ralf Ketteler, head of International Project Finance at Wpd.

Wpd has operated in Taiwan since 2005, executing wind and solar projects with its own team since 2016.

Once the Hsinyuan facility becomes operational, Wpd will surpass 500 MW of installed onshore wind capacity in Taiwan. The company also has a project pipeline of 275 MW of onshore wind and 50 MWp of photovoltaic (PV) projects.
