The Croatian unit of German renewables developer Wpd AG is planning to spend EUR 30 million (USD 32.7m) to build a solar power plant at the site of its existing Katuni wind farm in the western part of the Balkan country.

The project for the Katuni solar power plant was presented at an on-site event last week, as announced by Wpd Adria.

The facility is planned to be built in 2024.

"We are ready for significant investments and hope that institutions will enable them in a transparent and efficient manner without delay,” said Wpd Adria's director Zoran Obradovic.

Commissioned in 2017, the Katuni wind farm is located in the Sestanovac municipality close to the town of Omis. The 12-turbine facility has an installed capacity of 34.2 MW and a current annual output of 80 GWh. The planned solar park is expected to add some 45 GWh annually.

Upon completion of the solar plant, the hybrid site will produce enough electricity to meet the annual electricity needs of more than 35,000 households.
