The US unit of engineering and professional services firm WSP Global Inc (TSE:WSP) said on Wednesday it has secured work on the offshore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter platform for the 924-MW Sunrise wind project in the state of New York.

WSP USA will provide engineering services to Norway’s Aker Solutions to assist in the design of the HVDC platform, ensuring that it meets the required US codes and standards. Aker, along with Germany’s Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR), is in charge of supplying the HVDC transmission system for the offshore wind park.

In particular, WSP will provide geotechnical, civil and structural engineering; renewable generation, transmission and distribution system design; environmental and permitting services; commissioning services; and equipment and process quality assurance.

Sunrise Wind is owned by Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and New England utility Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) which will invest USD 400 million (EUR 366.4m) to build it. The wind farm is scheduled to become operational in 2025.

The facility, which will be located more than 30 miles east of the village of Montauk, is expected to provide enough power to meet the needs of more than 600,000 homes in New York State.

An affiliate of Haugland Group LLC was previously awarded the contract to install the underground duct bank system for the onshore transmission line.
