WV International Ventures, a unit of Netherlands-based WV International, has unveiled plans for the construction of a roughly 900-MW wind farm in Serbia’s Novi Sad region.

The Samos wind park will be located in the municipalities of Alibunar and Kovacica of northern Serbia, with its construction planned to be carried out in two phases, the provincial government of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina announced. The value of WV International’s investment was not disclosed.

The plan envisages around 420 MW of the overall capacity to be installed in the initial phase of the project, while a further 468 MW will be built in the second stage. All turbines will have a maximum hub height of 250 metres (820.2 feet).

The proposed complex will occupy a total area of 175 square kilometres (67.6 sq mi).

Serbia's 2030 Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) calls for the Balkan country to lift the share of renewables in gross final consumption to 33.6% and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40.3% from 1990 levels.
