Lluis Noguera, CEO of Spanish renewables developer X-Elio, has been appointed global head of development at Canada’s Brookfield Renewable Partners LP (TSX: BEP.UN), a role he will fulfill while retaining his current position.

“In this new role, Lluis will provide executive guidance to all of Brookfield’s renewable development companies and lead strategic value creation initiatives that benefit the whole portfolio,” a press release co-signed by Brookfield and X-Elio said on Thursday.

Brookfield’s global portfolio consists of 31.3 GW of operational assets, spanning hydroelectric, wind power, utility-scale solar and storage plants worldwide, with roughly 134.4 GW of projects in the development pipeline.

Noguera’s additional responsibilities come as Brookfield works on finalising the purchase of a 50% stake in X-Elio from its once joint venture partner in the business, KKR & Co Inc (NYSE:KKR). The deal, due to wrap up in the second half of this year, will put Brookfield in full control of the Madrid-based renewables firm.
