Xinyi Glass unveils 19 MWp of rooftop solar in Malaysia

China-based glass maker Xinyi Glass Holdings Limited (HKG:0868) has installed rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 19 MWp across its manufacturing facilities in Malaysia.

The company on Monday held an official event to launch its CNY-60-million (USD 8.6m/EUR 7.7m) rooftop solar project, which will see a total of 31 MWp installed in the state of Melaka. While the first two phases have been completed, the total capacity is expected to be installed by the end of 2020. Solarvest Holdings Berhad is one companies working on the construction of the systems.

The rooftop installations are expected to save 39,650 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions a year, while also saving CNY 15.9 million in annual electricity costs, the managing director of Xinyi Malaysia, Datuk Liu Xiao Rong, said.

The project is developed under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme in Malaysia, which is part of the government's efforts to reach its target of sourcing 20% of its power from renewable energy by 2025.
