ZeroAvia to partner with Masdar on hydrogen aviation fuel

ZeroAvia, a UK and US-based company focused on hydrogen-electric aviation, today unveiled a partnership agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, better known as Masdar, to investigate hydrogen production and supply at key locations.

According to the announcement, the companies will work together to build aircraft refueling infrastructure. The collaboration will initially concentrate on projects in North America and Europe, while also exploring the potential for establishing clean flight operations in the UAE.

Masdar is targeting 1 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen production by 2030 and its Green Hydrogen division is already involved in aviation projects.

ZeroAvia is collaborating with large energy companies to ensure fuel supply for its airline operator customers, as early as 2025. It targets refueling onboard aircraft tanks for up to 90-seat aircraft at commercial airports by the end of the decade.

Commenting on the tie-up, ZeroAvia founder and chief executive Val Miftakhov said: “Together, we are bringing the clean propulsion technology and the fuel to airlines to ensure that passengers can fly without any emissions and climate effects as soon as possible.”

ZeroAvia earlier this year completed a flight test campaign of its ZA600 hydrogen-electric engine aboard a Dornier 228 aircraft.
