Zimbabwe has invited proposals in a tender for the deployment of 500 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity across the country, aiming to expand the use of renewable energy.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) published a general procurement notice Thursday, saying bidding documents for the tender will be available from June 2020. The state-owned power transmission company’s goal is to limit load shedding during day hours and lower the level of non-firm power imports during the day.

The new projects are expected to mitigate the risks posed by climate factors to hydropower and thermal power generation.

The PV parks will be installed at identified strategic locations across Zimbabwe.
