Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) wants to build 300 MW of solar power generation capacity in Gwanda, Matobo and Munyati.

The company has filed applications for licenses for three separate projects of 100 MW each, local media reported, citing the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera). Objections to the projects can be submitted over a two-week period.

According to the website of ZPC, the three solar projects represent a combined investment of roughly USD 570 million (EUR 479.2m). Construction is estimated to take 24 months.

Swiss energy company The meeco Group says it has built the largest, so far, solar farm in Zimbabwe -- a system of 216 kWp. At the start of September the company announced that it would install another 330-kWp solar power plant for the same local customer.
