Zimbabwe Power gets license for 100-MW solar park - report

Zimbabwe Power Company has secured a license for the 100-MW Gwanda solar park in the African country, so construction can now start, local daily the Herald reports.

The license was awarded by the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) soon after it has been confirmed that the project is feasible even at a reduced cost of USD 140 million (EUR 120.6m). Construction of the plant will be managed by Chinese company CHINT Electric Co (SHA:601877).

The park will sell its output at USD 0.121 per kWh. Before the cost reduction the price was USD 0.18/kWh.

Local media in September reported, citing ZERA, that Zimbabwe Power is seeking licences for two more solar parks of 100 MW each in Matobo and Munyati.
